Psalm 35:1-28

Chapter 35
For David. Contend, O LORD, with my contenders; fight against those who fight against me. 1 Contend with those who contend against me, and shield me and arise to help me. 2 Grasp the spear and buckler, and rise up to meet my pursuers. Say to my soul, "I am your salvation." 3 Let them be ashamed and confounded, those who seek my life. Let them turn back and be put to shame, those who devise evil against me. 4 Let them be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the LORD thrusting them away. 5 Let their way be darkness and slipperiness, and let the angel of the LORD pursue them. 6 For without cause they have dug a pit for me, their net; without cause they have dug for my soul. 7 For without cause they hid a pit for me, their net; without cause they dug for my nephesh. His ruin comes suddenly—he does not know it; and his net that he hid will capture him in ruin; he will fall into it. 8 And let his soul rejoice in the LORD; let it exult in his salvation. 9 And my soul will rejoice in the LORD; it will exult in his salvation. 10 All my bones will say, "LORD, who is like you, the one who delivers the poor from one stronger than him, and the poor and needy from his robber?" 11 They rise up against me as witnesses of violence, which I did not know; they ask me. 12 And I, in their sickness, wore sackcloth, humbled my nephesh with fasting, and my prayer returned to my lap. 13 But I, when they were sick, dressed in sackcloth, afflicted my nephesh in fasting, and my prayer returned to my bosom. 14 And at my prostration they rejoiced and gathered together, gathered against me, lame ones, and I did not know them—they tore, and they did not keep silent. 15 But at my side they rejoiced and gathered against me, the lame; and I did not know them—they tore and did not cease. 16 Lord, how long will you look on? Return my soul from their cultic mockings, from the grinders of Og who gnashed at me. 17 Lord, how long will you see? Rescue my soul from their atonement-coverers, my only one. 18 I will thank you in the great assembly, chief officer in the great people; I will worship you. 19 For they do not speak peace, and against the quietnesses of the land they devise words of deceits. 20 And they opened their mouth against me; they said, "Ah, ah, our eye has seen!" 21 They opened their mouth wide against me; they said, "Aha! Aha!" as our eyes have seen. 22 Rouse yourself and awake for my judgment, O God and Lord, for my dispute. 23 Awake and rouse yourself for my justice, O God, and for my dispute, O Lord, that they not rejoice over me. 24 Judge me according to your righteousness, O LORD my God, and do not let them rejoice over me. Do not let them say in their heart, "Aha, our soul!" 25 Let them be ashamed and confounded together, those who rejoice at my evil; let them clothe themselves with shame and disgrace, those who magnify themselves against me. 26 Let them be ashamed and let them be confounded together, my adversaries who rejoice in moral evil; let them clothe themselves in shame and disgrace, those who magnify themselves against me; but let those who desire my righteousness rejoice and be glad, and let them say continually, "The LORD be magnified, the one desiring peace for his servant." 27 And my tongue shall meditate on your righteousness all day long, your praise.
